How to stop my cat going across a busy road?

I think it is cruel to throw your cat out onto a busy road and expect it to play in the traffic; you wouldn't do that with a child. If one cat has already been killed then there's a strong chance that this one will be killed also. There are better ways of providing outdoor access. Safe outdoor space is easy to do if you put up an enclosed run or surround your garden with a cat proof fence.
