I heard that infiniti cars and lexus cars have some sort of computer device... & when that device messes up...?

have to buy a new one, which is like $12,000... thats like buying another car.. thats crazy and im thinking of buying an infiniti right now.. so im really worried. is this true? is that piece really 12,000 and will it mess up soon? please help me
